It is a Government of India programme that helps turn cattle dung and other organic waste into biogas or compressed biogas (CBG) and organic manure. Village community biogas under Swachh Bharat Mission Grameen is coordinated by the Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation, Ministry of Jal Shakti. For large CBG plants, the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas is nodal, including a Cabinet scheme on 6 August 2026.

In general-category States including West Bengal, about ₹9,800 for 1 m³/day up to ₹52,800 for 20–25 m³. A typical 2–4 m³ plant is ₹14,350 (general category). This is reimbursement after commissioning, not money paid before the plant is built. With about two cows, this is the realistic track — not commercial CBG capital assistance.

Start with the Gram Panchayat, Gram Sabha resolution, then District approval. Register on gobardhan.sbm.gov.in.
